Sheep meat is generally divided into three types by age: lamb, from sheep in their first year; hogget, from sheep in their second year; and mutton, from older sheep, with mutton carrying a stronger flavor and tougher texture than lamb, which is the most expensive of the three. The stronger-tasting mutton has become hard to find in many areas as lamb has come to dominate the commercial category, prompting efforts such as the United Kingdom's Mutton Renaissance Campaign to revive it; other languages and regions draw finer distinctions among sheep meats by age, sex and diet, such as the Spanish lechazo, milk-fed unweaned lamb.MuttonConnectionsSourcesComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)MuttonFilter Results13 entriesDish FamilyAllEast Asian Noodles and Dumplings (1)East Asian Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes (2)European Breads and Pastries (1)European Soups (1)European Stews, Braises and Sauced Dishes (2)Latin American and Caribbean Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes (1)Middle Eastern and North African Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes (1)Middle Eastern and North African Soups (1)South Asian Soups (1)South Asian Stews, Braises and Sauced Dishes (1)Southeast Asian Stews, Braises and Sauced Dishes (1)CuisineAllArmenian Cuisine (1)British Cuisine (1)French Cuisine (1)Indonesian Cuisine (1)Kashmiri Cuisine (1)Mongolian Cuisine (3)Norwegian Cuisine (1)Peruvian Cuisine (1)Tamil Cuisine (1)Turkish Cuisine (1)Era (Origin Period)All1500 (1)1700 (1)1784 (1)TraditionAllNew Year Feast Traditions (1)Wedding Feast Traditions (1)Format/TypeAllEast Asian Noodles and Dumplings (1)East Asian Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes (2)European Breads and Pastries (1)European Soups (1)European Stews, Braises and Sauced Dishes (2)Latin American and Caribbean Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes (1)Middle Eastern and North African Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes (1)Middle Eastern and North African Soups (1)South Asian Soups (1)South Asian Stews, Braises and Sauced Dishes (1)Southeast Asian Stews, Braises and Sauced Dishes (1)CourseAllMain Course (1)Soup (4)Dietary SuitabilityAllContains Meat or Poultry (7)Origin RegionAllArmenia (1)France (1)India (1)Indonesia (1)Kashmir (1)Mongolia (2)Norway (1)Peru (1)Turkey (2)United Kingdom (1)Show ResultsBrowseCompareSelect all 13BoodogMuttonBuuzMuttonCassouletMuttonKhashMuttonKibinaiMuttonKuurdakMuttonLancashire hotpotMuttonMulligatawnyMuttonPachamancaMuttonRisteMuttonShish koftaMuttonSoddMuttonTongsengMuttonConnectionsUsed ByAfghan Cuisine, Cuisines Well-attested Source Afghan Cuisine (Wikipedia)tier 2Boodog, Dishes Well-attested Source Boodog (Wikipedia)Buuz, Dishes Well-attested Cassoulet, Dishes Well-attested Source Cassoulet (Wikipedia)tier 3Kashmiri Cuisine, Cuisines Well-attested Source Kashmiri Cuisine (Wikipedia)Khash, Dishes Well-attested Source Khash (Wikipedia)tier 3Kibinai, Dishes Well-attested Source Kibinai (Wikipedia)Kuurdak, Dishes Well-attested Source Kuurdak, WikipediaLancashire hotpot, Dishes Well-attested Source Lancashire hotpot (Wikipedia)Mongolian Cuisine, Cuisines Well-attested Source Larousse Gastronomiquetier 1Mulligatawny, Dishes Well-attested Source Mulligatawny - WikipediaPachamanca, Dishes Well-attested Source Wikipedia: PachamancaRiste, Dishes Well-attested Source Wikipedia: Riste (dish)Shish kofta, Dishes Well-attested Source Shish kofta (Wikipedia)Sodd, Dishes Well-attested Source Wikipedia, SoddTongseng, Dishes Well-attested Source Tongseng (Wikipedia)Uzbek Cuisine, Cuisines Well-attested Source Uzbek Cuisine (Wikipedia)SourcesLarousse Gastronomiquetier 1Hamlyn, 2009Used By: Mongolian Cuisine, entry: MuttonCassoulet (Wikipedia)tier 3WikipediaUsed By: Cassoulet, Infobox main_ingredient field: Haricot beans with meat (typically pork, sausages, goose, duck, lamb or mutton)View the SourceKuurdak, WikipediaUsed By: Kuurdak, Infobox main_ingredient field: mutton, onion, vegetable oil or animal fatView the SourceLancashire hotpot (Wikipedia)Used By: Lancashire hotpot, Infobox main_ingredient field: Lamb or mutton, onions, potatoesView the SourceWikipedia: Riste (dish)Used By: Riste, lead paragraphQuote, Used By: Riste, lead paragraphRiste (Kashmiri pronunciation: [rist̪ɨ]), also spelled rista, is a Kashmiri meatball dish made from mutton, beef, and rarely from chicken.View the SourceWikipedia, SoddUsed By: Sodd, lead paragraphQuote, Used By: Sodd, lead paragraphSodd is a traditional Norwegian soup made with cooked mutton and meatballs made with lamb or beef.View the SourceKibinai (Wikipedia)Used By: Kibinai, lead paragraphQuote, Used By: Kibinai, lead paragraphKibinai, kybyn, or kibin (plural in Karaim: kybynlar / qıbınlar (Common Turkic Latin);
